The role of a Minister of Communion is that of serving the people of God by assisting in the distribution of the Body and Blood of the Lord, both at our Eucharistic liturgy and in ministry to the sick and those confined to their homes.

Essential to this ministry is a great reverence and love for the Eucharist.

The role of Minister of Communion must be one of both being and giving the Body of Christ.

Duration of ministry
Each year, regularly scheduled Ministers of Communion (and substitutes) are asked to renew their commitment through a returned form distributed to them during the season of Lent. They participate in a special commissioning rite at the Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday. A new schedule is distributed usually in June of each year. Ministers are scheduled for a particular Eucharist on a specific Sunday of the month. Ministers are responsible for providing their own substitute, when necessay, from the list of names accompanying the schedule.

Rehearsal times or training sessions
The Eucharistic minister receives instructions from one of the parish staff. Participation in liturgical ministry training programs is expected when these are offered in the parish.

Expected dress requirements
As with all visible ministers at the Eucharist, dress should be one's "Sunday Best", and should be appropriate for the Eucharistic celebration. There is no specific dress code other than that which all ministers are expected to observe. Casual attire such as jeans, shorts of any kind, T-shirts, spaghetti strap or bare back dresses, are not considered suitable dress.
