"...many blessing have come to the parish. Our yearly Time of Renewal and the Theme for the Parish Year have been wonderful ways of growth for our parish. The renovations of the church, the new organ, the parish center and the renewal of the gymnasium have also been products of the generosity of the parish. The on-going growth of the many ministries is a sign that Holy Cross is a living, thriving parish."

Dear Parishioners and Friends of Holy Cross,
Thank You for all of your good wishes, gifts, cards and prayers. Last Sunday I felt so celebrated as well as overwhelmed with the beautiful Mass and Reception. I appreciate each of you and all you have given me over the past many years of my ministry to this parish. It is hard to begin to express my gratitude to our Parish Staff, Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors, Music Ministry, Spiritual Life, Liturgy, Bereavement Ministry, Coffee Hour, Rosary & Benediction Committee, Parish Life, Parish Council, Teens/Tweens, Athletic Association, Faith Enrichment, SCORE, Religious Ed, Gift Shop, Girl Scouts, Prayer Shawl Ministry, Martha & Mary Ministry, our Funeral Greeters and so many individuals, for your kind thoughts and gifts, making that day so special. Thank you too to all those who set-up the parish center, brought food, and cleaned up! I now leave you in good hands with Anne Johnson as the new Parish Ministry Coordinator. And please know you are in my continued prayers, as I enjoy each day of my retirement. Love, Karen

Father Wheeland was born and grew up in Elmira, NY. Since his ordination on June 4, 1966, he has been assigned to four Churches in the Rochester area. He spent two years in Irondequoit and all the rest of the time he has ministered in churches in the northwest section of the city. Since June of 1982 he has been pastor of Holy Cross Parish. He has seen the great spirit of the parish and has been enriched by the commitment of the people and the parish staff.
He welcomes and embraces technology that will allow Holy Cross to touch as many people as possible and he plans carefully for the future while maintaining the present. And yet, his personal passion continues to be the direct interaction with parishioners in all of their joys and sorrows and healing, on each one's journey toward God.
Father Wheeland enjoys the goodness of the people of Holy Cross, and the natural beauty of the area. He enjoys celebrating Eucharist, preaching and teaching. He likes to serve the wider community by his involvment with Diocesan committees, his ministry as Chaplain to the Rochester Police Department and his involvement as a member of the Board of Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. He has collections of Hess trucks, lighthouses, and paintings by Tom Lotta.
